I’ve seen some “jelly donut” beers just trying to emulate that flavor profile with other adjuncts, but I’m fairly certain this is the first one I’ve seen that uses actual jelly donuts. I’m just hoping it isn’t too sweet. Let’s crack it open and find out
Pours an opaque reddish purple with 2 fingers of sticky reddish pink head that fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is promising, it’s got an actual tartness to it. I’m picking up on aromas of tart raspberry, red grape, brown sugar, strawberry, doughy malt, lemon zest, and jammy blackberry
It’s very similar in taste, and I have absolutely no complaints about that. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting jammy blackberry, lemon zest, red grape, brown sugar, jammy raspberry, light vanilla, and strawberry. The swallow brings notes of red grape, lemon juice, doughy malt, strawberry, jammy raspberry, and vanilla
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry with a balanced tartness
This one is very good all around. I’m so glad it wasn’t as sweet as I expected it to be

Drank from a 1 pint / 16 fl. oz. can purchased at Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquor, Watertown, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured an insanely viscous and completely opaque, deep oxblood color. There was no head nor any true lacing. A blanket of fine sediment coated the glass from top to bottom.
The aroma was outstanding. Blackberry came through strongest. Raspberry was also noticeable. Good dose of vanilla as well. Hint of cinnamon too. There was a sweet pastry-like component that was difficult to describe, but I could definitely imagine that it was from the addition of donuts.
The flavor profile was also impressive but more simplistic than the nose. Berry notes dominated. Blackberry and/or boysenberry was most prominent followed closely by raspberry. Nice mix of sweet and tart. More berry tartness in the center. A touch of seed-like bitterness came through on the back end and in the finish.
Fantastic dense, viscous, smoothie-like mouthfeel. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained a super fine, moderate effervescence that worked perfectly for the style.
Mortalis’s fruited sours are always fantastic, and this beer was definitely another winner. The fruit additions gave the beer a nice sweet-tart quality, and the doughnuts were noticeable but not overdone. Despite the beer’s name, this was surprisingly balanced.

No canning date. Can to snifter.
L: Pours a muddy purplish burgundy red with no head. Very thin layer of fruit sediment lacing the glass.
S: Raspberry, strawberry and cherry paired with vanilla-like pastry dough notes.
T: Tastes pretty much as it smells. First raspberry and strawberry, then cherry. Pastry notes are there all the way. Medium fruity sweetness. Slightly tart.
F: Thick like a smoothie. Medium carbonation.
O: Exemplary Hydra with a great flavor combination containing just the right amount of everything. Not too sweet nor too sour. Very well balanced. The feel‘s lovely, too. Thick, but not to chunky. Fantastic stuff.
