This Fruited Sour was brewed in collaboration with our good friends on the other side of Lima, Other Half FLX. Our base Sour received concord grapes and our crumble treatment (contains granola and coconut) to emulate flavors of the iconic New York grape pie. With help from Cindy’s Pie in Naples, NY we were able to replicate a delicious treat in liquid form!

Look - Pours a dark purple color with a purple head that disappears after about 20 seconds, other than a ring around edge of the glass. Leaves a fair amount of residue on the side of the glass.

Smell - Grape and... coconut!

Taste - Grape, coconut, and a hint of pie crust. I love it!

Feel - Feels nice for a fruited kettle sour - very nicely thick. The 6%ABV feels about right for the taste.

Overall - Wow, this is the best fruited kettle sour I've tried to date.

absurd beer, this is the modern age, a collaboration with other half and something real fun to try but a little goes an awful long way, props for the use of new york grapes, concord, truly bizarre stuff, heavy hitting for its modest abv, on my palate literally forever, pushing boundaries of what beer is and can be, clever name too. designed to be a liquid version of grape pie, which i dont think ive had even being a new yorker, but it sounds yummy. they make this with a ton of concord grapes, coconut, and granola of all things, which adds some interest, at least on paper. it thought it might be more vinous, but these grapes manifest as jelly and grape candy, super intense, sweet, and not really fermented to me at all. this straight up looks like grape juice concentrate, actually pretty though, more refined looking than anticipated, and it tastes like it too, really like if purple as a color had a flavor, this would be it, i cannot imagine higher grape saturation than this, and its plenty thick perhaps from some malts, but i dont get any real grain in aroma or flavor, its juice before its beer, but its captivating anyway. the coconut does come through, there is light tang to this as well but its tough to call it a sour with this much residual sugar, but there is some pucker which serves to maybe lighten it ever so slightly. the coconut is cool, the grape is pure jelly but its also varietal specific for me, which is cool and i think what makes this successful for me, but its a pretty far cry from really tasting like beer, faint malt at the most, no hops, and its not really fermenty in any way beyond the little tanginess. still, its good, its pie-like, i think the granola serves its purpose and does contribute some depth, and its exotic and intense and what the instagram crowd is looking for these days, so a good effort in that regard. feels special to drink beer from these two breweries too, a total palate bomb, novelty level beer, but also high quality for what it is. respect. if anyone has ever known more grape in a beer, please point me in that direction, this has to be the max...

Drank from a 1 pint/16 fl.oz. can purchased at Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquors, Watertown, MA
Served in a tulip

The beer poured a deep purple color that was nearly identical to concord grape juice. Less opaque however than your typical Mortalis fruited sour. A frothy, magenta colored cap of froth topped the liquid and quickly dropped to a bubbly, lasting collar. Minimal spotty lacing trickled down the sides of the glass. As the liquid receded, a wall of fine sediment coated the glass and stuck until the drink’s end.

Concord grapes dominated the aroma. Possibly some blackberry too. Vanilla and/or marshmallow was noticeable as well. Hint of coconut. All in all, super sugary and sweet. As the beer sat, the vanilla, marshmallow and coconut intensified.

Concord grapes dominated in the flavor profile too. Loads of vanilla, marshmallow and coconut as well. Super sweet, even more so than the nose. Some sweet-tart grape notes appeared on the back end and carried into the finish. Touch of lingering acidity.

Nice rich, slick, creamy mouthfeel. Fuller bodied for the style. On every few sips, I picked up some chunky particles, perhaps from the granola.

I have a rather high tolerance for super sweet fruited sours, but this beer was even too much for me. I would definitely recommend splitting this can with a friend, as finishing it solo was definitely a chore.

Appearance: Pours deep purple with a mauve head; decent retention and spotty lacing

Smell: Concord grape and granola tones both come through

Taste: A blend of Concord grape and granola, up front, with a tangy finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body; low carbonation

Overall: Not the full smoothie here, as this is more of a traditional fruited kettle sour

This one pours a very gloopy looking purple color, with a small head, and lots of sticky lacing.

This smells like pure and fresh concord grapes, coconut, and vanilla.

I don’t really have a lot of bandwidth for this style of beer anymore, but this is admittedly quite good. Grape (and coconut) is a unique fruit for this style, and it’s done well, with a really authentic and fresh baked grape pie flavor, with a touch of toasted coconut on the back end. Like a lot of versions of this style, it’s not sour, really at all, but that’s fine.

This is super thick, but not quite to the ridiculous levels of some of the Hydras that Mortalis does.

This was quite unique and pretty tasty. I don’t need much more than half a can of it, but that eight ounces was enjoyable.
