This Imperial Stout is a blend of Weller and Buffalo Trace barrels that was finished in a Pear Brandy Barrel. Then, the beer is finished on almond cookies to meld flavors of Funfetti, cookie dough, and almonds with pear soaked oak.

The pour is pitch black motor oil. Zero agitated carbonation as it cascades into the glass. After a few minutes of settling, tightly formed bubbles begin to dance around the perimeter of the liquid.
The nose is pastry bliss, a beautiful bouquet of mascarpone frosting, amaretto, cardamon, and brown sugar-baked pears. On the back-end is the slightest touch of nutty dryness that rounds out the richness with that soft brandy character peeking through.
When first introducing this beer to the palate, brandy barrel influence introduces itself with authority; dry, roasty almond, caramelized pear, and marzipan buttercream. Quick to follow is a great integration of bourbon, bringing notes of baking chocolate, smoked vanilla, toasted oak, and a touch of baking spices.
The mouthfeel is velvety smooth but hits a beautiful line that doesn't cross over into overly syrupy or viscous. Carbonation is low and effervescent, paving the way for a finish that has a touch of residual bitterness and great length. Those finishing notes a stark reminder of the star of this show: that beautiful pear brandy treatment.

This one pours a very dark and thick looking black, with a very small head, and no lacing.
This smells like almond cream, caramel, milk chocolate, oak, pear brandy, and vanilla cream.
I don’t necessarily think I get any fully overt bourbon characteristics here – maybe some oak, maybe some caramel. It’s mostly pear brandy, which is just OK, as regular old Pear Leto is one of the best and most unique barrel aged stouts ever. It’s got a such a rich creamy vanilla and almond type flavor, with dried cherry, and tons of milk chocolate.
This is pretty big bodied, but not quite syrupy, with no booziness at all.
This is quite the special beer. Candidly, I wanted some stronger bourbon characteristics, but the pear brandy imparts some ridiculously delicious overtones, so I guess I don’t really care.

2022 edition: 4.66 originally. Lots of almonds. Bright aroma of cookies and bourbon.
2024 Sixth Anniversary copper wax edition: Perhaps more viscous than the first. Almond profile comes through like a bulldozer, in a good way. The pear brandy is complementary. The barrel is there without being too tannic. This is one that could probably be aged five years to knock down some of the sweetness in order for the brandy and barrel to nudge forward more, if you’re so inclined.
