Drank from a 1 pint / 16 fl. oz. can purchased at Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquor, Watertown, MA
Served in a tulip
Really interesting appearance. Mortalis’s fruited sours always pour thick and opaque, but this beer definitely brought things to the next level. Into the glass, the beer looked like mauve colored concrete. Once settled, the liquid turned a lighter shade of oxblood and was topped by a finger-tall, super tight and frothy, light mauve crown that closely resembled the entirety of the body on the initial pour. A blanket of fine sediment coated the glass from top to bottom and stuck around until the beer was finished.
The nose was really interesting. Cocoa notes came through strongest initially. Coconut was definitely noticeable as well. Good dose of pineapple too. A piña colada came to mind. Blackberry was also detectable. Fresh, juicy peach notes appeared as the beer sat.
The flavor profile was also impressive but surprisingly different from the nose. Berry notes came through big time. Raspberry and/or blackberry perhaps. Quite tart and tangy but also somewhat sweet. Pineapple and coconut appeared the center. Like the nose, very reminiscent of a piña colada. Touch of cocoa. More berry-like tartness on the back end and the finish. A fairly intense acidity lingered after the swallow.
Excellent rich, frothy, full bodied mouthfeel. Slick and smooth on the the palate. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence that worked nicely.
Mortalis’s fruited sours are always fantastic, and Gemini - Catalina Fruit Mixer was definitely another winner. While juicy and sweet up front, the tartness and acidity on the finish helped to balance out this beer very nicely.

Canned 1/11/23
So the last beer in the Gemini series I had, Strawberry Tangerine Waffle Cone, was hands down the best Mortalis beer I’ve tried. Not that I’ve had a lot of their beer, but definitely more recently thanks to Tavour. I’m excited for this one, but it has huge shoes to fill. Can this laundry list of adjuncts top the relative simplicity of the aforementioned beer? Let’s crack it open and find out
Pours an opaque, murky pinkish purple with 2 fingers of pinkish brown head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves minimal lacing. Lots of shit floating around in there
Thie nose is quite influenced by what I assume is a relatively small addition of nuts and chocolate compared to the fruit. I’m picking up on aromas of peanut butter, chocolate ice cream, overripe plum, brown sugar, grilled pineapple, maraschino cherry, and light vanilla
The fruit is more prevalent in taste, but the nuts and chocolate still lead. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting grilled pineapple, plum, roasted peanut, milk chocolate, raspberry sorbet, brown sugar, light cherry, and caramel. The swallow brings notes of peanut butter, plum, maraschino cherry, overripe peach, grilled pineapple, vanilla, brown sugar, and toasted pecan
A full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a thick smoothie-like beer. Finishes surprisingly dry given the body
Well it doesn’t come close to the last one, but this was very good
