Drank from a 1 pint/16 fl.oz. can purchased at Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquors, Watertown, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured an insanely thick and completely opaque, deep oxblood hue. Streaks of tiny bubbles ascended to the top of the liquid, but there was absolutely no head nor any lacing. As the beer receded, a blanket of fine sediment coated the glass.
The aroma was really enjoyable but quite simplistic. Fresh blackberry notes dominated. There was a nice vanilla and/or marshmallow presence as well. Quite sweet overall but in a very natural sense. Both the raspberry and the lemon notes were lost on me however, as were the granola and the graham cracker. Perhaps there was a bit of cinnamon character though.
The flavor was similar to the nose but definitely more tart and acidic. Big blackberry presence up front, but the blackberry was more sour and less sweet than in the aroma. Some raspberry was noticeable too. Underripe raspberry perhaps. Lemon notes came through strong as the beer moved along the palate and really intensified on the back end and the finish. Bit of rind-like pith as well. Like in the nose, the granola and graham cracker were undetectable.
Excellent rich, dense, fullest of full bodied mouthfeel. Very fruit smoothie like. Creamy and smooth on the palate with a fine, subdued effervescence.
Hydra - Das Yummy is an enjoyable beer, but the lemon seemed a bit excessive in the flavor profile and the granola and graham cracker notes were completely absent. I would gladly drink this again but not actively seek it out.
