This Black IPA was brewed to celebrate the total solar eclipse. A dark but lighter body is met with a moderate dry hop of Citra, Amarillo, and Mosaic. A balance of citrus, dank pine, and a light roasty finish.

On tap at Mortalis Brewing Company in Avon, NY.
This one pours a very dark brown, almost black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells bitter, roasty, and bready, with chocolate and spice.
This has a really nice hop character to this – bitter, spicy, and lightly citrusy – orange and melon. There’s a nice chocolatey creaminess here, and lots of pleasantly bitter roasted malt.
This is creamy, rich, and pretty drinkable. It feels a little bit thicker than a black IPA would traditionally be, but that’s fine.
I saw Mortalis had a new black IPA, and I simply had to try it.

Brewed for the 2024 Solar Eclipse
on draft at The Richmond location, in pint glass
black in color, cream colored head. I like the roast level and dank earthy hops, but I get a good bit of unpleasant hop burn in the finish.
