Drank from a 1 pint/16 fl. oz. can purchased on Tavour
Served in a tulip

The beer poured a super viscous and completely opaque, deep pinkish-purple hue. Very smoothie like. There was no head nor any lacing. The carbonation that ascended to top of the liquid gave this a sort of bubbling cauldron look. After each sip, a wall of fine sediment coated the glass.

The aroma was really impressive. Guava notes came through big time. Fresh cut guava perhaps. Really tropical and sweet. Some ripe peach was noticeable as well. Berry notes were also detectable. I might guess blackberry or raspberry, but I could imagine boysenberry too. Hint of booziness.

The flavor profile was also terrific. Guava again was the predominant characteristic. Good dose of fresh peach too. Loads of lemon-lime and tartness in the center. Blackberry appeared on the back end. More berry tartness and acidity and some berry seed-like bitterness in the finish. As the beer sat, the berry presence intensified.

Interesting mouthfeel. Full bodied and smoothie like but also somewhat gritty. The liquid contained a finer beaded but fairly zippy effervescence that gave the beer a nice spritzy-ness on the palate.

Mortalis’s fruited sours rarely disappoint, and this beer was definitely another winner. Despite this offering’s overwhelming fruit presence, it was surprisingly balanced and easy drinking.

Poured from a 16 ounce undated can into a tulip glass at 50 degrees.

Look- Burgundy, medium pink scant head that dissipates immediately, opaque, large visible particulate at edges, leaves granular residue on glass wall in lieu of lacing, zero head retention.

Smell- Boysenberry, guava, banana, peach, between medium and high strength of scent.

Taste- Peach, banana, guava, boysenberry, highly sour, moderately sweet, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, slightly above average carbonation, moderately gritty, nectar like, highly sour, moderately sweet.

Overall- First, it is very disappointing when the can states “drink fresh,” but no canned on date is put on the can. This beer is from a fresh Tavour order, so I know it’s fresh, but very annoying. Look of Smoothie Sours is always awful and this one didn’t disappoint. The bouquet and flavors were very vibrant and meshed pretty well with one another. The body was nice between medium and full, but this beer had a noticeable grittiness I could have lived without. Overall it provided a good drinking experience, but definitely had some flaws.
