This Fruited Smoothie Sour is our Hydra base aged in Rum barrels. After aging, the beer was conditioned on coconut cream, vanilla, horchata powder, and a hint of coffee. The flavors come together to mimic a creamy Horchata cocktail.

Tried this on a whim. It’s a rum barrel aged sour that is like a horchata drink, which I never had. Think pina colada and you’re in the ball park. Poured cold to an IPA glass, it is a deep off-white cream color. Viscous coming out. The aroma is quite fragrant with coconut and rum dominating. Flavor is a blast of fresh coconut with a massive fresh rum hit. Forget barrel tannins, it’s as though they just poured in straight rum. That’s a good thing because the flavor profile is firing well. There’s a few small black dots at the bottom, maybe coffee or cinnamon particles that are referenced in the flavor profile? The alcohol does not hide in the sips or the aftermath. The finish is sour, anticipated as this is a Hydra base, but I get a pineapple meets slight passion fruit twang. It’s an interesting drink, not one that I could do in multiples, but it’s delicious. It might be a great super hot day sipper type foofoo umbrella drink sort of thing. $8/16 oz is worth it.
