Drank from a 1 pint/16 fl. oz. can purchased on Tavour
Served in a tulip
The beer poured thick and viscous, like a fruit nectar. In the glass, the burnished orange hued liquid was specifically reminiscent of apricot nectar. There was no head nor any lacing. A wall of fine, clear sediment coated the glass and stuck until the drink’s end.
The aroma was pleasant but definitely more subtle than your typical Mortalis fruited sour. Peach and/or apricot was most prominent. Ripe mango was apparent as well. Juicy berry notes also came through strong. I would definitely guess strawberry instead of raspberry however. As the beer warmed, both the mango and the strawberry presence intensified. Later, the strawberry became ultra fragrant and almost perfume like.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose. Fruit forward for sure but more nuanced than most Mortalis fruited sours. Big peach and apricot presence up front. Mango came through strong in the center. Good dose of lemony tartness here too. Sweet-tart strawberry notes were apparent on the back end and in the finish. Nice lingering sweetness and acidity after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was fuller bodied for the style but fairly mid range for this brewery. Somewhat slippery and slick with a fine sediment that one might find in a fruit smoothie.
This was another enjoyable fruited kettle sour by the folks at Mortalis but not one of my more favorite offerings that they have released to date. Regardless, I am hoping to enjoy more beers of this style as summer approaches.
