Non-Barrel-Aged version. This Imperial Stout was brewed in collaboration with Corporate Ladder Brewing. We conditioned the full bodied base on toasted coconut, cacao nibs, and granola. Waves of cookie dough, dark chocolate, and sweet coconut will have you ready to roll for initiative.

Poured from 500 ML bottle into a tumbler. It is dark walnut in color and sports a creamy, medium-mocha head and spotty lacing. The pleasant aroma includes cocoa, vanilla, and nutty char. It is very sweet - almost cloying - with huge cocoa, vanilla, and coconut. The granola in the background is mellow and I taste virtually no bitter char to balance the sweetness. There is, however, an odd, anise-like flavor that I cannot place. This Stout provides a lot of flavor but the sweetness is overpowering. It has a rich, thick, mouth feel with low carbonation, and unlike the barrel-aged versions, the ABV of 10% seems temperate. Overall, I'm having trouble with the overwhelming sweetness. But I could understand how a fan of Pastry Stout would adore Critical Hit.
