Brewed with our friends at Pourin Joy, this indulgent Imperial Espresso Milk Stout is crafted to evoke the sophisticated allure of a classic espresso martini. Pouring a deep, velvety black with a frothy tan head, it greets the nose with intense aromas of freshly brewed espresso, dark chocolate, and subtle Blueberry undertones. House-made Blueberry simple syrup just brings another layer of goodness.

On tap at Mortalis Brewing in Avon, NY.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells mostly like sugar, with caramel, vanilla, and blueberry.
This mostly just tastes like a super sweet Dunkin’ Donuts iced latte sort of thing – there’s clearly a lot of going on here, but it all sorta combines into a generically sweet stew. It’s tasty because sugar itself is tasty, but only in very small doses.
This is thick bodied, with a cloying syrupy finish, and not much booziness.
Pastry stouts have been mostly in the rearview mirror for me, but this feels a bit too sweet even with that.

The base espresso martini is there more than expected. The blueberry offers an interesting counterpoint of flavor. It’s overall a good drink, but maybe a little confused and not one I would revisit.
