This is one of the best tasting Scottish Wee Heavy Ales I've ever had. 16oz can poured into a ceramic cup. Leaves about a half inch of head that disappears in a few minutes. I can't tell what color because of the vessel Im using, but it looks dark, and amber.
The taste is sweet; the perfect interplay of the dominant malty presence with what seems like the standard yeast variety for a scotch ale, and floral hop character rounding it out to create a solid wee heavy. Smell is florally and a little bit like bourbon, but it is not overpowering or boozy. This beer was aged in bourbon barrels which is creative for this style of beer from my personal experience. The feel is good, as well, and at nearly ten percent ABV, I think Original Pattern has something going with this style.
