a fine hazy double here, but sweeter and fuller than i love in the style, and next to a bunch of other tasty hoppy beers in close succession from new trail, this one kind of failed to distinguish itself, at least for me. the booze is a little exposed, the hops are flavorful here but not real unique, and there is a weight to this that really slows me down. i like the oats giving this body and some balance against the hops, but i want to taste them a little more than i do, not that the grain is bland its just kind of mild and starchy, without as much flavor as they could bring. the hops have some light spiciness, a mango juicy thing, and some intense pine, bold enough to sort of permeate my tongue, but refined enough to not be harsh. the alcohol stands out, the hops stay on my palate awhile, and this does work to fill me up and get me drunk, a combination that spells bedtime prematurely, but i dont dislike it either. i dont love my double ipa to be hazy and thick very often, and i dont love it here, this could be better if it were more delicate, scale it back to a single and it improves, that or clean it up a bit in terms of grain weight and residual sugar. i am being too harsh, this is fine, just not quite up to the standard of the other hoppy stuff i had from them on my trip.

Slightly less than a fibbers worth of lush light khaki colored froth... Modest retention... Color is a pale lemony gold... Nose is subtle with lemon zest and a very light hop presence... Palate is consistent with the nose but amped up a notch or two... Feel is rich, lush and creamy... Medium bodied with light carbonation... Really refreshing and enjoyable, nicely done....

12oz can courtesy of JayO'Rear. No freshness date on the can, but it's been sitting in the fridge for a couple months now as I got it in my head that it was a big stout and could, therefore, sit for a bit. My bad.
Poured into a shaker pint glass, this was a hazy yellow-orange-amber color. Good sized off-white head, good retention, decent lace.
Mild citrusy and tropical fruitiness from the hops. Might well have been more prominent if I hadn't let it sit so long.
More prominent flavor than the aroma suggested. Fairly smooth and sweet, but not cloyingly so. A bit more tropical in the taste than in the nose, too. Mildly dry at the swallow.
Medium bodied, with a light creaminess in the mouthfeel.
Nice beer! Real easy drinking for the abv, and very tasty. Still, I definitely get the feeling fucked up by sitting on it.

A clear pint glass seemed an appropriate destination for the contents of a twelve ounce can. The color is an opaque strawberry blond-amber on the bright side. A nice lasting off-white head rests on top. Rare is the New Trail hazy that doesn't bring a wonderful bouquet of malt, hops, yeast and sometimes, a little alcohol. This is not rare. It is richly bodied, with oats probably adding their part. The taste starts sweetly enough, but this is mainly a good bitter hop bomb. Wait! There's more. The hops are complex, not just one dimensionally bitter. Somewhat fruity, then somewhat dank and earthy, then exiting cleanly dry and bitter. Another from this brewer that tastes so good, goes down so smoothly and hides its ABV so well it could lead to trouble. To think that something this good probably isn't inside the top five of the best offerings from this brewery, wow! Then, there's nice sediment to finish it off.

Poured into a goblet: color is straw gold, dense haze, off white/eggshell head with fine bubbles, head presents 1 finger thick and then dissipates to solid top with lacing on the glass sides.
Smell is mixture of light oat and malt, citric and tropical hops, undertone of herbal hops (or is that alcohol).
Taste is similar and fairly typical NT hazy flavor profile - citric and tropical hops with pineapple heavy and maybe some berry like notes, oat and wheat malt, lighter herbal undertone.
Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate/strong sweetness, sharp bitterness and lingering bite.
Overall a sweeter DHIPA, maybe too sweet, slightly strong boozy aroma, sharp bitterness that lingers.
