16 oz can, no date
pours black in color with dark tan bubbles that can't form a head and quickly fade to nothing within a minute of pouring. looks like a glass of coke. aroma definitely dominated by sweet caramel, a little nutty too and a some chocolate. Taste is similar, just a touch of salt to balance a lot of sweetness. thinner in body than I'd like for this kind of beer. overall it hits the intended mark, but a bit too sweet for me

Purchased at Giant Foods, Souderton, PA. $12.99-4pk/16oz cans.
Pours a dense, jet black color. One of the darkest stouts I’ve seen to be honest. No light showing through this beer. Zero head on the initial pour.
Aromas of caramel and vanilla.
A very sweet, dessert-style stout. A mix of buttery caramel, vanilla and a district creaminess reminiscent of ice cream. A brew that really lives up to what the name implies. A slightly sour, mildly bitter aftertaste. The ABV is not noticeable.
A heavier consistency and very smooth.
A very delicious stout. Not a brew that I’d have more than one a night due to the heaviness and sweetness. Overall, a really good beer. Cheers!

They can't get much darker than this. It's a shade closer to true black as is the black coffee color of most stouts. Even the head that flashed for a moment was dark brown, not the typical tan. The caramel aroma pervades, creating expectation that this will be a desert beer. It is, but it's not just caramel-like sweet. For one thing, there's plenty of saltiness to taste. So if you're a fan of sweet and salty, this is a must try. It also brings a chocolate cream aspect that diffuses the sweetness. There is a roasted malt hint at the finish which also mitigates the original caramel hit. Although the body tastes rich, it's not heavy, nor sticky. It brings the taste of cream without doing that. Of course, with virtually no head, it follows that there's no glass lacing. If you've ever savored eating a salted pretzel whilst eating chocolate ice cream, you can't let this one pass you by.

A - Dark brown pour with dense tan lacing.
S - Massive nose that's all salted caramel and chocolate.
T - Taste isn't as intense as the nose. Starts out with salted caramel and roasted chocolate, then subsides while finishing with intense chocolate char and charcoal with a slight bit of caramel and more salt (and cream) bleeding through at the very tail end.
M - Thick and syrupy that leaves a sticky residue on the lips.
O - As advertised, New Trail nailed it.
