Ketzer Lager is a Franconian inspired Helles Kellerbier. Striving to reflect the pure balance, nuance, and quality found in this traditional style, Ketzer is brewed with German Pilsner malt, just a kiss of Vienna and Light Munich and hopped with selected Perle, Hallertau Mittelfrüh, and Saphir hops. A gentle biscuit malt character and a noble floral, spicy hop aroma prevails with notes of wildflower honey, citrus zest, alpine herbs and a hint of peppercorn. To ensure a classic mouthfeel and expressive minerality, Ketzer is unfiltered and naturally carbonated.

16oz can served in a hotel tumbler. Don't see a date on it. I can't remember if I bought it at Windsor Home Brew Costa Mesa or Hi-Lo Liquor Costa Mesa, but either way it was over the weekend.

Pours mostly clear demure amber with a small, thin dusting of head and not a lot of active carbonation. Smell is grainy and clean with a hint of orange blossom. Some grass and lemon zest.

Taste is light, mild, earthy bitter and toasty grain husk, lemon rind. Maybe a little hint of oak.

Mouthfeel is light, smooth. Overall, pretty good.

1 pint can served in a Weihenstephaner glass. No date on can, but since this beer was only added to the website recently, I'll assume it is a recent canning.

Appearance: Cloudy golden yellow, thick white head, lots of islands and sheets of persistent lacing.

Smell: Yeasty, with a combination of orange and noble hops. Quite inviting.

Taste: Quite a bit different in flavor when compared to the aroma. There is more of a malt and lager taste up front, the yeast is muted, and so are the hops. The hops are lightly bitter (more citrus zest like, not very noble hops in character) at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Airy, good carbonation, a little chewy with a dry finish.

Overall / Drinkability: I think this is meant to be paired with food, or it needs to be really fresh. By itself.....it's just okay. I found one was enough. Looking at the description after I reviewed it, I think some of the flavors and notes got lost as the beer aged (I'm assuming it was brewed and canned in May, and then posted to this website in June).

Appearance: Gold-toned body, very light haziness. Slim, near white head.

Smell: A lightly bready, lightly grainy scent with a faint note of citrus and light floral, herbal flourishes.

Taste: Golden barley glazed with a slick honeyed cereal sweetness. Slightly bready quality. Subtle citrusy lemon hint. A slight, curious herbal hint akin to a touch of gentian. Lightly bitter. Finishes semi-dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Hint of slight creaminess to the overall mouthfeel.

Overall: Not bad.

Appearance: Cloudy straw gold, frothy white head with good retention. Moderate to high carbonation.

Aroma: Lemon and floral hops with cracker-like malt.

Flavor: Spicy then lemon like hop note. Cracker-like malt. Low bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, soft with a prickly carbonation. Drying at the finish. Clean finish.

Overall: A lighter bodied, flavorful beer. Refreshing. Lemon and spicy hops notes mark the hop profile. Malt is a more subtle cracker or bread flour like aroma and flavor. Bitterness is quite subdued. Looks and start highly carbonated with a spritzy-like mouthfeel but it releases it's carbonation pretty quicky after pour. Pours a thick, frothy head that lasts and leaves some nice rings in a super clean glass. Short, crisp, clean finish that is dry. Nice beer.

A decent summer/ lawnmower beer. The flavor is a bit too subtle for the style (unfiltered pale kellerbier) but beats being overdone. A strong 4 star rating.

On tap in NYC poured into a pilsner glass.
Look: Clear golden yellow. The head was minimal by the time the glass was brought to my table.
Smell: Malt and floral notes
Taste: Clean classic lager taste with plenty of malty notes.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Very solid helles beer that I would definitely try again.
