Coffee Maple Stout

Say hello to breakfast! This imperial breakfast stout starts with a thick base and meticulously chosen dark malts and flaked adjuncts. It was first made with Jon's home-roasted coffee and Mike's own homemade, Grade A Very Dark maple syrup from his trees and sugar maple trees around his neighborhood. Since making our commercial transition we handpicked local maple syrup that meets our standards and carefully selected raw coffee beans that we roast in house. It was important for us to keep control over these variables in order to keep the foundation of what has made this one of our favorite beers to make each year.

2021 version 11.5% ABV.

Purchased cold at the brewery 2-days ago and kept cold until slightly warmed for the pour. Poured from a 16oz can dated 12/01/25 to a Snifter/Goblet style glass.
The pour steam is completely black as is the captured body. The head is 1in/25mm, brown and contains a large range of bubble sizes, the largest of which burst randomly. This amazing head fades absolutely nothing within minutes. No lacing, but the oily body coats the glass on tilt and takes its time falling back.
The aroma is coffee forward, with no maple to be sensed.
The taste is opposite, very strongly Maple syrup but the coffee is there on the finish.
The mouthfeel is sticky, as expected with such a Maple content.. Carbonation was medium at the start, fading to barely anything as the session continued.
I’m not one for sweet stouts, but this one impresses me. The coffee back-bone is fantastic.

this beer is delicious, but its a commitment, thick as maple syrup itself, strong and boozy, sweet on the palate forever after the glass is empty, definitely a good final final for the night, impressive maple profile on this, thats what makes it special, but the whole thing is well thought out and executed, these guys are making some pretty special liquid in my limited experience. this is slick, near black, and quite viscous, the little bit of head from the tap fades pretty quick. the nose is strong roasted intensity, bitter from the grain, almost burnt to me from the coffee, but in a nuanced and appealing way, espresso crema, unsweetened dark chocolate, a tobacco wrinkle with some of the middle malts, and then the maple, dark and rich, sweet and thick, really enticing, fully natural to me, very boldly dosed. the whole thing is instantly all stuck between my teeth and to the roof of my mouth, major body and density on it, but in an appealing way, the maple is full flavored and delicious, not quite as sweet as it can sometimes be, as in there is some roasty grain balance to cut into it a little, and ever so slight acidity from the coffee that also helps. the java is warming, chocolatey, and distinctive in this, great with the malt, and lingering through the finish right there with the maple. its pretty boozy, but i like the pace of it. intensely flavored stuff but clearly made from some very fine ingredients, long boiled with care, and rather well dialed in for its enormity. tox is fully on my radar now, totally killing it!

2021 bottling; no. 378/407 (released on 1/21/21, so presumably bottled within a few days of that date); consumed on 4/25/21

Pours a pure jet-black body topped with two fingers of fluffy, soapy, pale khaki foam; head retention is relentless, holding firmly longer than an adjuncted stout of 11.5% ABV has any right to, and eventually fades to what becomes over a finger of creamy froth coating the surface and a thick waves of lacing walling the glass almost comprehensively.

Aroma opens with a distinct yet maintained maple sugar, sporting lighter coffee and a soft malt char toward the middle of the bouquet; a tinge of creamy vanilla and brief hints of underlying bakers chocolate intertwine with charry coffee culminating to a stimulating, caffeinated burst, a flowing sweetness tempered with a well-timed char.

Taste features a more coffee-forward front, hints of nondescript dark fruit guiding into a slick maple mid-palate; burnt chocolate matches a mild char for a cool bittersweetness grazing the back of the palate before fresh maple comes forward once more into the finish.

Mouthfeel offers a light-medium body and a fluffy carbonation fading quickly to a semi-slick, mildly oily texture giving way to a building char; a hint of stickiness coats the tongue past the mid-palate, while a slight astringency cuts through the back end into the finish, largely drying out the burgeoning sticky characteristics.

An airy take on the weightier 'breakfast' flavors, this stout puts forth a direct display of sweet maple and roasty coffee that produces, much like TG's Mornin' Delight, a lively expression of the casual, flavor-forward breakfast stout; an effortless delivery cannot understate how purposefully constructed, well-executed, and roundedly enjoyable this beer remains throughout.

Picked up a wax sealed 22 oz bottle at the brewery. Pouring at cellar temp into my snifter. The beer pours jet black color with a creamy tan tan head of 1cm and no light passes through my glass when I hold it to the light.
The aroma is all malt and fairly sweet. I get caramel and chocolate with only a little roasted malt and a good hit of maple. Not overly artificial maple or cloying so that is a positive for a maple enhanced stout.
No hop presence and not really any hint of alcohol on the nose.
The first sip reveals a medium body with a slightly syrupy texture and stickiness on my palate. the carbonation is soft and almost non-existent, very cask-like on this mouthfeel.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some toffee and chocolate with a bit of brown sugar and maybe a hint of coffee. then the maple comes through and is very sweet. This maple sweetness lingers long after each swallow. Again, not cloying sweetness but more solid maple flavor.
Again, I dont get any hops and the booze is dangerously well hidden. I enjoy this beer, but it is sweet, this is what makes the beer a sipper not the booze.
A solid beer from a new brewery in CT. Worth a shot if you can find a bottle and like malty brews.
