2022 vintage; consumed on 7/12/2023
Pours a silky, midnight-black body capped with a finger and a half of creamy, pale mocha-hued foam; solid head retention leaves a spotty cap, thick, frothy collar, and minimal-no lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas of German chocolate cake sport a dark fruit inflection upfront, with residual tones of sweet toffee leading into doughy cocoa and chocolate wafer, while malted milk balls accent an airy, delicate bourbon waft fading.
Taste brings chocolate-covered espresso beans against a lingering char to start, with increasingly bittersweet cacao finding a roasty heat over the mid-palate as prickly oak and tinges of burnt vanilla pod coast through the back end of the profile.
Mouthfeel shows a medium body and gentle fluff of moderate-low carbonation; a subtle bittering builds over the mid-palate, fading to semi-sticky textures and a mild, almost subliminal grit while a drying warmth eases through the finish.
Bittersweetness primed with an oaky bourbon cadence sees roasty malt elevate to a gentle richness; competent barrel remains steadily in-tune with a dry, mocha-laden presentation.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and a bit of lacing.
This smells like spicy oak, roasted malt, dried cherry and raisin, and dark chocolate.
This is excellent stuff, as is to be expected from a barrel aged beer coming out of the Twelve Percent facility. There’s a lot of oak here, spicy and warming, with some tobacco and caramel like bourbon flavors, a touch of vanilla, and a really pleasant dark fruit characteristic. There’s also a lot of chocolate.
This is medium bodied, rich, and creamy, with a restrained sweetness and a restrained booziness.
This is highly enjoyable, and I’m really glad I got my hands on one of these.
