Pours a slick motor-oil black body capped with a short-lived half-finger of frothy, dark khaki foam quickly fading to a near-blank cap, large, creamy collar, and minimal-no lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas waft roasty dark cacao and subtle Raisinet to a fig jam peak as tinges of candied licorice meet a light yet potent whiskey presence while a clean heat grazes soft, malted char on the back end of the bouquet.
Taste opens to burnt cocoa and a sweet caramel interlude, with wisps of burnt vanilla bean over the mid-palate lingering into nutty char and a melted dark chocolate finish.
Mouthfeel brings a medium-light body sporting minimal carbonation and dispersing a silken texture overshadowing a slightly bitter grit progressing through the mid-palate, leaving a delicately dryness easing into a charry finish.
Old-school dark fruit trend culminates with bittersweet cacao and licorice eased by a ripe whiskey soak; a bit light, and with some sensory edges, but overall a solid barrel-aged offering from Tox.
