Asian craft beer brewed in the USA. This pale/wheat ale is brewed with a citrus native to Korea and Japan, the yuzu. The flavors in this ale are layered with a warm citrus start from the yuzu peel and a tart finish from the yuzu juice, all with a lingering breadiness of the wheat and pale malt. A staple for the Japanese BYOB, Chinese take-out, or Korean BBQ.

Three Legged Crow Beer Company "Yuphoric Yuzu Ale"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating. Contract brewed by Flying Fish Brewing Co. in Somerdale, NJ
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice packaging. Sediment is visible in the base of the bottle. It's poured a hazy orange body beneath a short head of white that's all but passed at this point. Maybe I should have been rougher with my pour? The aroma is interestingly citrusy. I hate to say it, but my first thought was that it was like some kind of furniture polish or kitchen cleaner. There's some malt in there as well. On to the flavor... the Yuzu is interesting. It's lemon-like but also lime-like, but somehow not exactly-lemon-lime... although there's a touch of orange in there as well so maybe that's what's keeping it from becoming lemon-lime. I'd like to taste it on its own, or at least in a more golden beer where it might come through more clearly. As it is, I think it's all pale ale malt although there might be a light touch of caramel malt in there. It's a bit sweet but also slightly acidic, and moderatly bitter, and then it finishes mainly dry with a spritz of acidity and then citrus flavors lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. So, what to say? Let me just break it down from the start. ... ... ... I just poured my glass into another glass to see if I could get it to bring up a head and maybe leave some lacing behind but that didn't work. I'll assume it's the acidity that's killing it, but maybe not. In any case, the appearance is not that great. The aroma then, although a little odd initially, becomes OK. It's not great, but it's not bad. The flavor to a certain extent follows along with that although that I will say it remains interesting - that's its greatest strength. It's also nicely balance and has a good mouthfeel.
