On tap, beautiful deep color, ;light off white head, appealing smell, and as expected on taste and kick. I haven't had many Scotch Ales, but this one will hang with the reputable ones I have tried (Oskar, French Broad etc). Very enjoyable. Will have again.

When I visited the brewery on August 11 to purchase crowlers, this is what the four people at the bar were drinking. They strongly recommend that this should be one of my three selections. Good Call!!!!! This is an excellent Scottish Ale. I would imagine it would be even better if it didn't sit in the crowler for 11 days!!!! Pours a dense reddish brown color for a quart crowler into a Stone RIS tulip glass. Fast fading small tan head and no lacing. Aroma is rich, malty (mostly caramel malt), toffee, and sweetness. Taste is even better. Still primarily a rich malty beer but in addition to the toffee and caramel malt, there is a nice smoky malt finish that makes it even better. Mouthfeel is rich and smooth, no hit of alcohol. This is an excellent beer!!! Best of the three Mountain Layers beers I have tried!!!!
