4oz glass (there is a reason for this), at the brewery in industrial southside Edmonton. A 'tart Saison'.
This beer appears a pale, golden straw colour, with a thin cap of wispy and faintly bubbly off-white head, which leaves a bit of random spotty lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, a bit of sour yeastiness, faint earthy spice, and very tame leafy, herbal, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, mildly tart yeast, underwhelming black peppercorns, and more ephemeral earthy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-assuring frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, with little in the way of malignancy existing at this point in the game. It finishes trending dry, the generic graininess prevailing.
Overall - I'm not particularly impressed by this iteration of the style, as it is neither tart nor Belgian-forward in its bearing. Another simple and forgettable offering from this outfit that seems more focused on retro gaming than making interesting brews.
