Our beloved house Saison.

Primary fermented with our house yeast and then laid to rest in barrels with our house microflora for just over two years.

This is a beer we’ve dreamed of making for many years. It took a long and winding path to existence.

Saison is the only other style that we've been brewing as long as we have IPA. In fact as a homebrewer, it was the only beer style we brewed as often as IPA. We love the style as we do few others. We've been anxious to reintroduce Saison into our lineup after nearly a 4 year absence, but we’re thrilled to be able to share it with you now.

Naturally carbonated. Bottle conditioned.

No style scares me from my favourite IPA brewer than a saison. And it's not fair, I know. They made one that was terrible four years ago and nothing since. But I like Badlands and I like saison and the brewer explained how this was different.
A big bottle too, so let's hope for the best.
Pours bubbly, almost champaign like but with more yellow. The nose is funky and heavy on Brett. Stinks to high heavens. The taste is....well, again not the saison I was looking for. Not as a bad as four years ago though. But this is more of the sour and Brett variety than a Belgian saison, which is my jam. Very oily back note as well. Some sweetness and not highly detectable herbal notes.
So. Is Badlands getting better with saisons? Using barrels helped, but this is still not for me. So perhaps I shouldn't say "better" or "worse", it's just that this is not my kind of saison. I will stick with the Belgians or with the Americans, like Boulevard's Tank 7.
