they call this one a farmhouse kolsch, but im not really sure what that means here, usually when i hear farmhouse i think saison or wild yeast, but this doesnt appear to have any of that, if it does, its really underdeveloped. its almost a shame they through that in there, because its distracting and has me looking away from an otherwise very solid example of the kolsch style. perhaps the farmhouse moniker is used to imply a degree of rustic character, like this might be unfiltered or something, but it looks almost all the way clear, its just confusing. subtle white wine notes to this, a clean crackery malt base, and a fresher than normal but familiar kolsch type yeast and attendant crispness. its got a little body but is extremely refreshing, is light on the hops but slightly floral in the finish with a dab of bitterness, and smooth and easy drinking and well carbonated, a nice beer overall, maybe a little less refined than some, but its hard to see farmhouse being an appropriate description of what is going on here, at least in the context of how the term is usually used in beer. well made like all the beer we had in here, but maybe the least interesting too...
