Picked up a single pint can. Best by date on can: 04/12/2025.
Pours a crystal clear amber in color with a lovely finger thick creamy white head on top with solid retention that leaves plenty of lacing on the glass as you drink. Carbonation looks to be moderate, maybe slightly lower. This looks to be a classic, balanced West Coast IPA.
Aroma is grapefruit pith, lemon and pine with a toasted honey grain lingering in the background. Maybe a splash of melon and tropical fruitiness in there, too. Not overly pungent off the pour, but it opens up a bit more as it warms.
Taste matches the aroma well. Lots more pine on the palate, resinous but not dank. Also getting the grapefruit pith and some subtle, berry and herbal notes. There's an excellent malt bill throughout with a toasted honey grain that provides just the right amount of balance. After the swallow, it's mostly grapefruit pith and pine resin. Fairly bitter.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation with a hint of zest on the swallow. Drinks smooth and creamy. This one does sit a bit heavy in the stomach, probably because it is so resinous. It is also a bit of a palate wrecker.
This is really enjoyable. I always love sampling a beer labeled a West Coast IPA that is actually a West Coast IPA. This reminds me a lot of Stone IPA, circa the 2000s. Citrus, pine, toasted malt bill. Simple but well done, hitting all the classic notes of a standard West Coast IPA. This is my second beer from Eppig and I've been impressed by both of them. I'm absolutely going to seek out more of their stuff now. Cheers!
