Kudos to IBC for experimenting with different styles coupled with cask conditioning. This is a pumpkin spice beer, so I wasnt sure to put it down as a fruit/vegetable beer or a herbed/spiced beer. The premise for this brew is that every year for Halloween, the staff carves pumpkins, and with the leftovers from that event (and seeing some of the pumpkins they have carved, looks like they hit a few pints early on), they toss in a bag and into the brewkettle it goes. Along with some spicy goodness.
Its served just a tad cooler than room temperature via a good ole fashioned beer engine. I had the pleasure of tasting a pint of this stuff.
A: light looking orange/amber hue, large fluffy offwhite head. Inviting me in for a taste
S: faint hint of pumpkin, nutmeg, cloves, and even ginger. Not hoppy or malty, as the spice dominated the aroma (but not over-dominated)
T: very light tasting beer, faint taste of hops in there with some malt character, like bready pumpkin pie. Of course, the taste was also predominantly pumpkin with spice...cloves, nutmeg, ginger. Reminded me of eating a pumpkin pie. Yum
M: usually when drinking cask ales via beer engine, the taste is aggressive and sometimes rougher than its chilled counterparts, however this brew was different. It was smooth and mellow, almost subdued and creamy. It was easy to drink
D: Overall a great experience for my taste buds. Very nice pumpkin pie taste that was creamy and easy to drink. Too bad its limited to just one cask, thats almost gone, and most likely to be all done tonight being that its Halloween. I would definately like to have another pint.
Again, I have to give it to IBC as they are doing more experimentation and looking at different avenues of brewing outside of your normal pales, stouts, and porters. Its a good exciting change.
