Can to tulip.
It's a semi-dark brown color in the pour but leaves more of a dark black color in the glass when held up to the light. A small cap of a little off white foamy head softly dissipated to leave a whimsical sly lace sliding with the sips.
The aroma has that Demon Roast coffee, deep and thick and earthy, actually almost comes across like mud - I can tolerate but can understand if some people will hate on this smell. It's not nauseating to me, oh hell, I welcome it, to be honest, it's quite different! Then the obvious milk chocolate came in nicely. Then very faintly, ever so faintly, there's the cinnamon stick that I noticed. Not sure if the cinnamon stick was intended by the brewer but I definitely noticed it extremely faint with proper warmth.
The flavor seemed to mesh fairly well between the roasty coffee and the deep sweet and semi-spicy earthy characters. Sly aftertaste of sweet earth, milk chocolate and a gritty dryness.
The mouthfeel seemed to sit at a medium body and had a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation and ABV felt on par. Nice amount of grit stopping all the expected stickiness that could have occurred. And that delicate cinnamon stick seeming to be the ending force of it all - making it all cohesive enough to show that this beer is well worth trying.
Overall, hello "Love!" My new found friend, yup, this is what Branch and Blade is about and can get done right!
