Everybody is always excited for the third date, but the eighth date is where the magic really happens. That's when you're comfortable enough together to build an imperial stout recipe, let it boil overnight, then condition it on Indonesian vanilla beans and Barhi dates. We got together with our old Brewer/Bestie Isaac who is now at The Eighth State in Greenville, SC to do just that and, damn, it is magical!

Met up at B&B with my Bro Artied2 on 09MAR24 for some grub & grog.... tried a small pour of this while there, and later opted for a 4-pack to go, at $19.00.... Settling in to a 16oz can (or 2) while watching some Mahch Madness....
My sniftah now holds the majority of the can... It's an oily, jet-black brew, with no light escaping the black hole. Up top sits a thin, fine layer of tan suds, with a hint o' lacing left on the glass. Aroma is rich with malty choco and coffee, with a plethora of dates mixed in. Has some vanilla as well... It is extremely smooth on the tongue, with a medium body bordering on medium-plus.
Flavor is rich and decadent.... It's is quite more sweet than bitter, but never gets cloying. Has sweet, Bosco-like choco, some cocoa, then some dark choco for balance. Vanilla lurks just below the surface, with the dates then adding more tantalizing sweetness. Has lovely dark fruit swirling around on the palate... and the 13% ABV is hidden quite scarily! Prost!!
