absolutely elite, a stunning beer/wine hybrid, a standout from our epic grape beer night, and now perhaps my all time favorite beer from cyclic, which is a huge endorsement because they kill it across the board and i am already a loyalist. this is one of their most funky ive ever had, they make their own wine here too, so pretty cool use of the skins and stems from that process here, label says a three and a half month maceration, seems so mature right away that it almost has to be wood aged, but i really dont taste or feel oak on this, could be some of that from the stems themselves i suppose, really unique. chalky pinkish purple color to it, belgian looking bottle conditioned inch of airy lasting head to it, and some courser sediment towards the bottom of the bottle, petty but not striking, a little understated. the nose is immediate though, wow territory, wet concrete and earthiness with tannic fruit, rose wine, blueberry juice, red cranberry, epic wild saison funkiness, an almost lambic medicinal weirdness to it, a light pear ester, seemingly bone dry, natural wine vibes abound. in the flavor the fruit and the ferment work so well together, unique brett profile very well developed, a carbonic wine tang, the skins are tart but this isnt really a sour beer, spontaneous character, hay and straw and old barn, musty and ancient, the fruit hits the center of the tongue hardest for me, almost indescribable, not even sure i have had sumoll wine, sumoll blanc yes, but not a red one, now i almost need to, would die to try theirs! blackberry as it warms, good framboise notes too, light sulfur in the best possible way, iodine, slate, crackling dry on the swallow with rushing carbonation, it all feels so organic, light, breezy, but its also deeply earthy and complex in a not subtle way, the best of funky old world wild saison here, as good a grape beer as ive ever had, and really is one i will never forget. i hope to get to drink this again, absolutely astonishingly good.
