Brand, Brewery: Apple Pie Ale, Northway Brewing Company, Queensbury, NY
Style, ABV, IBU: Wheat beer, 5.3%, 30
Served in: Glass beer stein
Appearance: Unfiltered, translucent deep amber color with no noticeable sediments, thin exceptionally short-lasting khaki-colored head, sparse lacing
Aroma: Dominated by the very pleasant aromas of apple pie as expected from its name: apples and apple pie spices: cinnamon and allspice. How could one not like this?
Taste/Flavor: Not surprisingly, taste follows the nose, but is not the its equal. It is not like drinking an apple pie. This is a well-balanced malty beer. Hops are hidden until the dry finish kicks in. This is not an unpleasant beer
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation. It has a surprisingly dry, astringent finish. Its complexity sets in well-after the first sip
Overall: Overall, this is a far more complex brew than the first sip would indicate. It is probably not for everyone, but it is not a bad beer. Note: The brewer suggests that it is a Wheat ale. This reviewer will suggest it is really a fruit beer. This review is based upon the latter. As a wheat beer, its rating would be lower
