Brewed with our friends at Nine Maidens, MaiTaiBock was a challenge to create a MaiTai beer, yet balanced and remaining in the light lager world. We think you'll love the notes of pineapple and orange, with subtle almond, lime and cherry, in a light bodied crushable lager.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a reddish color, like the color of Maraschino cherries, honestly, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This doesn't really smell a whole lot like the cocktail it's supposed to be invoking. There's lots of cherry (orgeat?) here, it almost drowns out the rest of the aromas.
I had heard that Eli Fish was getting a bit better lately, this beer is unfortunately not a good example of that. It's just muddled and unbalanced, with too much sweet cherry, and not much at all of the other flavors you associate with the cocktail. It also doesn't really matter that the base is a maibock, or whatever it actually is - you don't get any lager-y notes, whatsoever.
This is light bodied and not super drinkable - it's just not that enjoyable of a pour.
I wanted to like this one more, but I honestly should have known that a mai tai-inspired bock had more of a chance of being a disappointment than being good.
