Went in looking for a draft pour, only to find out they had it bottled. Now the labeling is whacked: it says it’s 12oz, but I’m pretty sure it’s 500 ml. I’ll measure later. The label also says it did 4 months in glass after the 18 months in Willet barrels, as opposed to 4 months in stainless steel per the website. OK, that all aside…
This is a good f’ing beer. Poured cool, moderately hard to a Voodoo BRC snifter, it pours extremely dark brown, sun black, used motor oil. Viscosity glugs out looking like used motor oil. Some faint head ring. Stains the glass brown. Not much for aroma, though there is a muddy, dark stone fruit aspect. The flavor is firing on all cylinders. The engine that burned this oil did a fine job. It’s a heavy mouthfeel, akin to Thin Man BA Awesome Jenkins or Mortalis BA stouts as local comparisons. The bourbon and alcohol give a quick slap on the tongue early, followed by a decadently rich dark malt profile. It’s simple, but every thing about it rocks. The Willett comes through loud and clear, cutting the heaviness. Alcohol is a little hot up front, with warming quickly after the sips.
While some of the other Eli Fish BA stouts and other offerings can be a tad gangly, this is a fully matured drink. Bravo to the brew masters!
