A blend of two-thirds Foudre-aged Schwarzbier (10 weeks), with bourbon barrel aged barleywine in a Hartman's Distilling barrel (18 months). A light smokey and roasty blend is complimented perfectly by the big barrel booziness of the barleywine. A match made in heaven.

Tasted BLIND. Pours a relatively thin dark brown with a thin layer of tan head. I'm not thinking stout. The nose immediately screams old ale or an old ale/barleywine blend. Malty, toffee, figs, raisin, an ever-so-slight roasty note. Fairly subtle on the nose, overall.
The taste is super interesting. Again, definitely not a stout, but could be a blend with a stout based on the taste. Reminds me a lot of an old ale, but super roasty. Charred wood, coffee grounds, leather, earthy, burnt toffee, and slightly burnt toast. I honestly don't think anything was added to this. Could be a straight up stout (lower ABV), a blend, or just an old ale. Mouthfeel is light to medium.
Dang, I'm pretty confused at the moment. There is a light fruity note that develops as it warms. I definitely would put the ABV down around 9-10 % or even lower. Let's see what it is!
After the reveal: This makes a lot of sense. I totally get the black lager now (hindsight is amazing, right?). Didn't get the bourbon barrels, but it was relatively minimal in contribution. Great beer overall!
