A hybrid of sorts, Jetty 4 is a Vienna Style lager derived from German malt and hopped with American Cascade hops (Pacific Northwest). Crisp, clear, and golden in color, this “pale lager” is smooth with a slightly dry finish—an incredibly easy-to-drink craft brew. Too bad its namesake is not an easy-to-ride surf break!

A: The beer is crystal clear amber yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that quickly died down, leaving narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of toasted malts are present in the nose along with notes of orange citrus.
T: The taste is a bit sweet and mostly has flavors of toasted malts. There are some hints of citrusy hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems like a hybrid between a Vienna Lager and an IPL.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) can into a Captain Lawrence, muffin top pint glass; no production information.
A: Pours a very slightly hazy, dark golden approaching amber color with a less than one finger, white head, rim retention, and no more than spotty lacing.
S: Spicy (?cinnamon) and fruity with aromas of cherrywood and guava, as well as strong grassy and grainy notes.
T: Semidry. Fruitiness persists so much, this resembles a California Common more than anything. Very light bitterness keeps it fairly dry and crisp.
M: Light bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.
O: This is a fun type of lager, which I would characterize as a very refreshing, off-beat thirst quencher. Frankly, it has a lot more character than many American lagers. I could definitely see having these on the beach.

Growler of WHB Brewing Co. Jetty 4 was purchased at the brewery in January of 2019. Initial taste was of the chilled beer, poured fresh from the jug into a simple glass, displaying strong carbonation. My initial impression was of a highly attenuated lager, with little to recommend it. I tried it a few days later, still at refrigerator temperature, after most of the carbonation had dissipated. On this occasion, I found the brew had a nice mild malt body with an appropriate hop flavor and bitterness. This beer reminds me of a good flavorful American style lager from the 70s. I definitely enjoyed the beer in the low-carbonation state.
