Burnt amber, presenting lighter towards the bottom, with a soft, off-white blanket thickening at the edges yet leaving a clean glass as it recedes.

Smell is banana, clove and honeycomb with dark toast and a hint of bubblegum.

Taste is peppery and spicy of clovey phenols, and lots of it, but also a bit of licorice, pumpernickel and pear.

Despite the off style aromas and flavors, this medium-full bodied ale has a really nice, firm yet softly filling carbonation before finishing semi-wet yet prickly.

American breweries need to stop confusing "Saison" with Hefe or Tripel characteristics. Maybe they were truly going for Saison, but it doesn't taste like it, and further, it isn't funky at all, as the name attempts to suggest.
