Poured from 375mL bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku.
Appearance: totally black with no light let through, and a thin layer of creamy dark tan foam atop. Beauty, eh?
Smell: tons of sweetness; aromas of malt, caramel, graham cracker, dark chocolate; I can't specifically pick out the miso but there's definitely a rich, earthy, umami thing going on here too. Excellent.
Taste: incredibly sweet, but I guess that goes with the territory. There's definitely plenty of umami here, and while I know that rich, almost meaty earthiness is the idea, it can also come across as a sort of "soy sauce" off-flavor. It's honestly a very good beer, but there's that hint in there. I think it adds to the perception of the chocolate as being dark chocolate, something about which I cannot complain.
Mouthfeel: tons of body with a moderate carbonation and a full, rich, silky-smooth creaminess. Outstanding.
Overall: I'm still not 100% sold on the miso. I'd love it to maybe be pared back a bit and have the flavor fall a little more in line with the aroma. That said, how can you not love a massive, flavored, diabeetus stout?
