Picked up this 22 oz bottle at the brewery yesterday. Been in my cellar for the past 18 hours or so, and Im now pouring it into my trusty snifter.
The cap pops off easy and the beer pours a clear chestnut color. Some muted light passes through my glass and there is also some very fine dark sediment in the bottom. A fizzy beige head foams up about 1 cm and fades to a sturdy surface covering with a very active center of bubbles.
Aroma is fairly sweet and malt forward with some bourbon and brown sugar and a bit of plums and a little bit of fusol alcohol. No hop character on the aroma. All seems good to me.
First sip reveals a medium body with slightly sticky texture and very fine tingly carbonation. Not quite as full and syrupy as I was expecting, but it fits the bill.
Flavor is also malt driven with brown sugar and bourbon coming through but also covering some plums and red grape here, definitely some fruit sweetness, not just sugary. No hop hints and no warmth. There is a little peppery bite for booze hints, but otherwise this beer drinks pretty smooth. Happy to try this beer from a new to me brewery!
