Bought another brew from Japas, one year later... but from the same store in Holland Michigan. So why can't I find this brewer in Chicago?
As a pastry stout, Taiyaki is only slightly above average. The AIS style is pretty demanding with subtleties that include barrel-aging and tricked-up ABV. Taiyaki lacks most of those subtleties. It is just a pastry stout without much discernible chocolate. Basically, Taiyaki pushes few buttons.
However it is decent and I bought a 4-pack, so I am not done reviewing Taiyaki.
As for Japas, this is only my second; and my micro-review a year ago was truncated because their website was not too developed. But in late 2022, I see they keep adding to their portfolio. But their biggest Overall Hugs comes from their three check-offs on diversity: women brewers of Japanese descent brewing in Brazil. All three of which puts Japas in a special place and deserving of these OA Hugs. Kanpai ! or Saude' ! as suits this diverse enterprise.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
