Our commitment to explore and create a wide variety of lager styles has taken us back to the Franconian region of Germany. This kellerbier uses a simple grist of pilsner and munich malts which creates distinct flavors of toasted bread crust and warm biscuits. Hopped with Tettnanger and fermented cold and slow, we were left with this wonderful lagerbier that has an herbal and light, peppery spice that balances out any sweetness.

From the pint can, it pours a slightly hazy (naturtrĂ¼b) amber color with a very nice white head that slowly reduces and leaves lacing. The nose gets earthy scents of malt. The mouth gets a nicely lightly bitter light malt brew that leaves a pleasant lightly bitter aftertaste.

Draught pour into a Pilsner glass.
L: Crystal clear pale yellow, persistent 2 finger head, thick white foam leaves good lace.
S: Strong nose, spicy noble hops, only hints of bread malt.
T: Good flavor, hoppy and slightly sharp overall, very little malt sweetness, spicy and floral hops, grainy/barley malt, floral finish and aftertaste.
F: Light feel but to the high side, slightly crisp, clean.
O: Nice beer but when rated as a Keller the numbers suffer. I'm not sure why the brewer lists it as a Keller, from their notes this is a Pilsner base, but it's obviously filtered. It's missing the extra zingy/zesty character to the aroma and flavor, and the fuller smooth feel that I associate with a fresh Keller. In my mind this is a Pilsner and a good one. Perhaps I need to do more research on Kellerbier.
