Our latest Eddy Hopping features the New Zealand hop variety, Rakau. This single-hop IPA revolving series features a different hop for every release. By keeping the malt base consistent, the hop varietal can be showcased. This Rakau iteration uses a large whirlpool addition in the boil kettle for the first layer of bright aromas. The dry hopping process then creates a swirl of orchard fruit. Lime, pear, apricot and white grapes circulate across your palate, perfect after a day on the river.

Nice and clear, golden body with a fair head on the pour, but it has some staying power as a modest cap. Lacing is nice. Nose and taste both have some strawberry scratch 'n' sniff vibes to them. Backing this is a bit of a vegetal to herbal note - maybe they included the green leaves of the strawberry they put in.
Deeper whiffs show a hint of fruity dankness. It turns a little more grassy with some warmth, and seems to fit in the very generic vibe I get with many New Zealand hops - grassy and fruity, though many have a more tart citrus vibe. A little dryness aided by moderate bitterness does tend to beg for another sip.
Not to the heights of the Citra version for me, but I do like Citra hops. A nice, bitter-leaning IPA that weighs in a little below its 7%.
