Can date 4/15:
A high-haze brew, but not what I would call cloudy. Body is burnt yellow with an orange hue. Head is creamy white and stays thick for a good while, striated sheets of lacing help to remind me of where I last took a sip.
Nose hit me as piney and grassy as I opened it, but delving in I get a tropical fruit skin bittersweet along with some of the candied orange from the El Dorado. Grass and a hint of coconut play at the edges - an odd case where I am sensing in the aroma what I expected from the hops. It isn’t my favorite profile, but I can’t argue I should expect different.
Taste brings the hops right away. There’s an earthy grain to wet hay background that doesn’t do much for me. More in my face is the grapefruit pith (??) and late summer grass (expected from Idaho 7) that gains a zested orange (El Dorado) and papaya (El Dorado / Sabro?), with a tropical fruit skin bitterness backing it (maybe the Idaho 7 coming back in). This might be true, because as it warms, the reedy wood-like coconut vibe of the Sabro looms larger in the flavor profile.
I think I’m missing a little true sweetness from this one, surprisingly. I like the bitterness, but I feel the tropical notes need a dash of sugar to give some contrast, or something.
