500 ml bottle

Pours opaque black, tan lacing dissipates to almost nothing.

Aroma of cocoa, coffee, caramel, oak, rye, and whiskey.

Flavor is of strong cocoa, coffee, caramel, licorice, mesquite, oak, and rye whiskey.

Full viscous body, stinging carbonation on the tongue.

Very tasty, slow drinking, smooth, and very enjoyable. Definitely try, would have this again.

500ml bottle with the label date partially removed but I do see a 20.
Confused by the label as it states Rye barrels then goes on to say bourbon barrels. They are not the same. Dark brown color that appears black in the glass. A small head forms and settles to a thin cap. Distinctive aroma of rye whisky with slight notes of vanilla and caramel. Flavor is dominated by the barrel. Strong notes of whisky with vanilla. Surprisingly boozy and hot considering it is not that high in ABV. Not much depth though and almost tastes stale like a past its prime beer. Feels a tad thin but is suitably carbonated.

From Tavour. My second from Saltfire, but it is a world different. The first, Putin on the Fritz (also from Tavour), I bought because the name was funny enough... but then I panned that porter. It is hard for me to believe that this Limited Edition BABP comes from the same base recipe. It is a nearly great porter.

With a hard pour, Looks are better than Beergoot (below) claims... although I agree the fade and lack of lace makes it lesser to so-and-so in the style. Smells are full of malt and barrel; but to me only slightly more spice from the rye (and less vanilla!) than bourbon's corn imparts in the oak. Very smooth in the mouth and finish.

I've already given Saltfire my quickie review... but I remain amazed about how improved this Limited Edition is from the first Baltic porter I had from them. Maybe they've grown. And certainly I've grown, although not necessarily in the best ways. Cheers Saltfire !

Nearly black body; fizzy head that quickly dissipates to a thin, bubbly patch of foam dancing atop the beer. Fine malt and rye whiskey aroma. Outstanding taste; notes of cocoa and baker's chocolate; fine underlying note of rye whiskey; brown sugar; molasses; low-key bitterness. Medium body; slick yet with a somewhat fizzy feel on the palate; nice residual sugar presence; alcohol heat present.

The weak head is the major visual fault with this beer, but things pickup with the other attributes, especially the taste. The flavors are rich and complex and the rye whiskey barrel aging makes a bold presence with adds to the allure of the beer. While not a world-class beer in my eyes, the beer is well worth trying based on its taste alone. It is spectacular.

I have drunk less than ten of this beer style. The beer is 50 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The pour on the beer produced a one-half finger sized head. The dark brown head is airy and foamy. The retention on the head is weak. A typical Baltic porter usually with have a persistent head. The head left no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 37 a dark brown nearly black. The clarity of the beer is opaque.

Initial aromas of the beer are dark roasted malts, toffee, and malty sweetness. Next, I smell, plums, raisins, wood, spicy rye, grass, caramel, toasted nuts, and molasses.

The flavors in the beer are molasses, dark roasted malts, a touch of the rye notes, toasted nuts, molasses, plums, raisins, chocolate, coffee, wood, and anise.

The mouthfeel of the beer is dry and coating.

The body of the beer is medium, medium carbonation, and a full finish.

Seriously this Baltic Porter is impressive. The flavors of the beer are on point with this style. This is a fantastic porter. The beer starts off a touch sweet and finishes dry. The rye barrels add just an inkling of spiciness. The beer is a joy to drink.
