This is an 11% Old Ale, Stock Ale or Barleywine call it what you will... A lot of Marris Otter Malt, some Hudson Valley Rye and Demerara Sugar create a super drinkable, balanced, and slightly spicy adventure!!! Perfect for the colder weather ❄ as it WILL warm you up!!!!

My King's Court tee came up in my rotation and remembered i still had this in my beer fridge. Acquired 11-4-23 courtesy of @mikexw via the Barleywine Stout BIF last fall; consumed 9-1-24.

Beer poured reddish-brown with a nice off-white head with the original pour.

Nose is very nice, caramel malt rich with hints of toffee and citrus lingering in the background.

Taste is a toffee flavored malt base that is peppered nicely with a large dose of alpha C hops that lends a touch of citrus. Finish is a pine-rind bitterness; 7/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.

Overall, i was very surprised at how bitter the finish of my first sip was given the 2021 born on date. This could easily be classified as an American Barleywine. Thank you, Mike, for the opportunity to try!

2021 Edition:
Canned product, collaboration of 2 local brew pubs, King's Court and The Mill House. Not presently on tap at either, but maybe it was at some point.
I wanted to call this an English Style Strong Ale since they named it Old Ale but the hop rate and where it was brewed made me opt for American. Brewers, feel free to correct me.
Deep amber color with a low head that slumped to a tenacious ring of cling. Clear, with low carbonation, it still kicks up a cap of foam when swirled.
Aroma is malt forward - heady sweet caramel malt and some funky alcohol notes mix with an earthy hop spice. Hints of drunken cherries, honey and cold oatmeal.
The flavor is rich and malty followed quickly by firm hop bitterness. Hops take charge in the mouth but the sharp peppery bite is buoyed by the hefty malt body and the tasty sweetness from the crystal/ caramel malt character.
Good balance and warmly satisfying, this should be in a bottle so it can age. Maybe cans age well but.... I'm sure this could be more complex with some cellar time to smooth the rough edges and the sharp, tongue stinging finish.
