I got this at a beer bar in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the capital of Sakhalin Oblast in the Russian Far East. It came in an ale mug - globular with square windows and a handle. The name of the brewery refers to the German-Sakhalin connection that was its origin. This is a worthy rendition of the Helles style.

Came out a nice gold hue under a fairly think white head that lingered well and left some pretty good lace. The nose was malty, but not strong. The mouth was crisp and prickly. The initial taste was malty, but also just a touch sour. There wasn't much hop in the finish, and the aftertaste was very mild malt. No real bitterness. Not my favorite beer - not even my favorite from this brewery - but when the waitress said this was all they had, I didn't stop drinking!
