my first from these guys, a pretty ambitious beer, brett farmhouse aged in tequila barrels, uncommon but effective here, this is lush and quenching, interesting but not overly weird either, young maybe on the brett side, but its not incomplete to me, enjoyable and clever. golden and glowing but not quite clear, fizzy but the head is just short, pure white, looks good, bright. the base beer presents as pretty simple, lightly wheaty but more pils malt driven it seems, lighter and fermented cool enough that this isnt all super estery or anything, cleaner than expected on the primary, on the dry side to me, not really rustic, but also not generic, which i appreciate, might drink more belgian blonde than saison without the barrel treatment and brett, but thats okay, it seems well made and intentional in both aroma and flavor, faint white wine, coconut, and pear to me. the tequila part is there, more silver than barrel aged to me, that almost aloe lush refreshing verdant thing, maybe just a quick rest, but cool because its more agave than oak, a little menthol herbal thing, and some new maybe slightly cheesy funk from the brett, maybe will develop a bit more over time, but it adds enough interest that this is in fact interesting, which ultimately is a real desirable feature for a saison. its not barrel dominated which is smart, there is some late onset bitterness, the carbonation is good, the yeast itself is subtle, the brett is emerging, and i think overall this is a neat beer, and a fun introduction to fireforge for me. you dont see a lot of farmhouse types in tequila barrels, and its risky, but i think they capture the best parts of the synergy here...
