Decent beer, pineapple is very subtle, a decent blonde ale though, would have again with the right food or weather

i grabbed this from a liquor store i hoped would have a much better selection, but the idea was that i was headed to a friends house who loves beer, but isnt super ambitious with his craft drinking, and i thought an easy drinking fruit beer would be agreeable for him and his wife, so a crowd pleasing choice. i was mistaken though, or maybe i underestimated my friend, because this was not a hit. too sweet and artificial tasting for both of us, forced on the pineapple, and without any real beer elements to it, lingering badly and long on the palate, and drinking more like a soda than anything else, disappointing to say the least. there is no mistaking this to be pineapple, but its more like pineapple candy than real fruit, and the level of residual sugar here makes even a single can difficult to finish, i didnt finish mine anyway. it smells better than it tastes, and its never bad, it just doesnt taste much like a beer, and its the sweetness that ruins it. very light on the grain, no hops evident at all, and no yeast profile to speak of either. carbonation is fine, but its not enough to save this, and i burp up the candy character of the pineapple for awhile after im done with this. who knows what will ever become of the rest of the six pack left in the fridge. this was my first beer from these guys, an offshoot of denver beer company i think, and it was a total let down. i had even planned to visit the brewery when i was in denver over the weekend, but this can single-handedly talked me out of it. skip this one unless you arent really looking for a beer at all. a shame, because the potential for the idea seems so high, the packaging is cool, and the market is probably there for it. bummer.

edit: they have fixed this, many years later after the original review i had this again at the source and it definitely seemed improved in a number of ways. a lower dose on the pineapple for one which helps it taste at least a little bit like beer, and also less sweet, so more authentic fruit character, although still lacking any acidity like real pineapple has in spades. its more tidy, lighter overall, and to me with some grain interest now. still not my favorite in here, they have some amazing selections, but i see why its working for them and its obvious it has come a long way. i have to improve a couple of scores to average out the two experiences with this. trending up for sure, nice to see!

On draught at Frontier Brewing and Taproom.

It pours a straw gold with a small head of foam that lasts. Nice lacing.

I smell pineapple, some sweetness associated with that, light grain. Simple.

Taste is light, pineapple, light grain and sweetness, mild bitterness.

Light body, light flavours but good overall.
