hands down the most delicious and most ambitious beer i have had from these guys so far. its done in collaboration with cellar west, and is an english porter with some brett in it, no oak or anything, but really complex in a cool subtle way. a gorgeous pour too, i love the stemmed glassware in here, and the dark beer with over an inch of tall frothy mocha colored airy head on it looks really pretty, not tons of body evident, but lots of bubbles which is cool in a beer so dark. the aroma is neat, some cool dark berry notes to it, black cherry and blackberry and dried currant, slight sweetness there, lots of roast, dark roasted hawaiian type coffee, and the breadiness of the english yeast. the brett is light to me, well mature and clearly did its thing drying this out and adding complexity, but its not overly wild or developed tasting, light musty funk, complimentary with the fruitiness this has, and i think a great match with the english element. dark cocoa, raisin, fudge, wet soil, cool farmy brett character but i wouldnt call it funky, and with all the rich flavors its also not sweet. some nice bitterness on the finish from the roast is cool with the brett too, and the carbonation is brilliant on it, it really gives it a saison feel more than a porter, so lively and bright, a wonderful decision. killer beer, hopefully a sign of things to come from these guys!
