Bourbon Barrel Aged Muffin Man Saison

lots cool about this beer here. that its in collaboration with a home brewer, that its barrel aged but only just over 5% abv, that its been in the barrel a year, that its a weird mix of flavors but it works, i was pretty into this. the barrels definitely add a whiskey nose and taste, like when you finish one on the rocks and then the ice melts and you drink the water, like kissed by it but not taken over by it, despite it being as obvious as it is in here. the ginger element in here is cool with the yeast, but also with the whiskey. there might even be a slight brett thing going on, this has a little funk among the woodiness. also cool is that the citrus and lemongrass character really brighten it up, that it still seems tropical despite the barrel, and that the spiciness in the saison strain pushes through all of it to keep this still drinking like a saison. i dont love it overall, like its things that i dont think need to be put together, but i like how ambitious it is and how well they pulled it off, cant complain in the least. decent carbonation, a little sweet maltiness too, but there is impressive balance here. i am overselling this for a beer i didnt necessarily want to order again, but for something this weird, they got it right. id like to try the version without the barrel, but this is really cool. the parts that are a little amateur flatter it.
