a neat red ipa here that employs some locally grown and malted triticale, but like the other beers i had in here, i had way higher hops for this and it let me down a bit, just a beer, sweeter than it should be, a little harsh on the hops, and just lacking the balance and refinement i wanted from it, kind of amateur. the triticale part is evident though, which is cool, loaded with rye-like spiciness through most of it, especially in the finish, and adding a grounding earthy layer to an otherwise sweeter, crystal, red type malt base that has some residual sugar to it. i get a little green hop bite to this as well, which i got in their other ipa, as well as a slightly phenolic yeast thing that really doesnt belong in here and ruins this for me a little bit. there is some spice to the hops as well, which works with what i get from the triticale, good synergy there, and a little pine too, its well designed i reckon, but less than perfectly executed. really liked this place a lot, good energy and cool people, but the beer didnt do a whole lot for me unfortunately. maybe next time...
