Brewery tap-filled can, poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing; immediate pecan aroma on pouring.. Aroma of dark toasted malt, pecans, caramel and cocoa. Flavor is dark, mildly toasted malt, candied pecans, toffee, hints of cocoa; some astringency develops in the finish which is dominated by semi-sweet pecans. Medium bodied with light carbonation and moderate creaminess. A well made and tasty pecan porter. There is a light sweetness that dries out into the finish with a little astringent bitterness that is reminiscent of the bitterness in the corky liner of the nut shell and has the same tannin-like quality. The story here is mostly pecan, but there is a solid, lightly milky porter base that carries the pecan flavor nicely.
ABV well covered. I'd like to hear the story behind the name, but it is appropriate for this pecan forward brew. Nicely done. Canned from the tap, I think this has a little less carbonation than it did fresh, but it is satisfactory.
