Brewery tap-filled can, poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger khaki head that dissipates to patches with nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, dried plums and raisins, brown bread and graham crackers. Flavor is dark toasted malt with a little char, raisins, brown bread crust; some bakers chocolate developing into the finish, which had a light hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. All the flavors I expect for a Baltic porter are here from the porter malt to dark dried fruit. In addition, there was a mild char to malt that was light enough to add character without intruding. The chocolate notes in the finish, which lingered after the taste were quite nice. A pleasant and nicely made Baltic porter that pushed gently against the envelope.
After I got home from this trip I was sorry to find out this brewery is closing this month. It was one of the two most interesting I visited this year; I bought a few more cans than I expected and glad I did.
